From the 1950 till the 1980s Praktica has built many, many SLR cameras and the super TL was one of them. These cameras were pretty good, very sturdy and until the 1970 s fully made from metal. Quality started to slacken from the late 1970s so when you want to buy a Praktica camera for daily use, make sure it works. One of the more likely problems is a stuck or broken aperture due to a lame tension spring. Another issue was the plastik cover of the film winding crank. This one is often missing or broken. Somehow the plastic used was not strong enough :o(
The Super TL was part of the 2nd series Pentacon camera. Other cameras of the 2nd series were the Nova and Praktica Mat. My super tL works perfectly fine and is in a near-perfect cosmetic condition. Unfortunately the lens that came with it, the 1960s type with the black-and-silver stripes, did have a lame aperture spring. But of course when using any other lens, it's fine again. The cloth shutter was also like new, no holes and perfect shutter speeds. |
